{Soirees} Showers for the Mommy-To-Be...Amber

Remember the invitation how-to I did last month?  Well we had the shower this last weekend, and it turned out great!

We fell in love with a baby shower that was featured on HWTM done by the fabulous Paige from Pages of Style, so that was our starting point.

I loved the shower curtain she used as a back drop for the dessert table, and since I couldn't find anything I liked nearly as much, I just bought the same one from Target (it looks great in the guest bath too by the way).  I found a cheap child bubble umbrella on Amazon, drilled holes in it, and attached tear drop crystals to look like rain drops.  It's a little hard to see in the picture, but it was so cute.  I made the cake myself (lime and strawberry cake with cream cheese graham cracker frosting), and topped it with some beautiful fondant flowers I found on Etsy.  We put powdered donuts, yogurt pretzels, and jelly beans in some bright berry containers that I purchased from Shop Sweet Lulu.  Also on the dessert buffet were cupcakes, Fat Witch Babies Brownies that I had from a Gilt sale, coconut macaroons, truffles, and rock candy.

The table set up was pretty simple.  I just bought some antiqued roses to pretty it up a bit.  We used square plastic luncheon plates and plastic silverware (easy clean up).  We use my vintage dessert plates for the dessert.  The bubble vase place card holders were from one of the hosts recent wedding.  They were a perfect touch to our "showers" theme.

We set up a little beverage station on my kitchen table featuring sparkling water, pink lemonade, french berry soda, and pomegranate soda.  We used mason jars as glasses, and I ordered paper straws (from Shop Sweet Lulu too).

For lunch, we served Mac and Cheese with a variety of toppings, antipasti skewers, and caprese salad skewers.

For the shower favors, we made our own sugar scrubs using organic sugars, almond oil, and lime essential oils.  We packaged them up, and topped them off with a little tag that said "From our shower to yours."

We also did a photo booth (without the booth) with various props that I downloaded from Oh Happy Day.  We used the Fuji Instax Mini to take all the pictures, and they all looked so cute.

I made a mini album for the mommy-to-be as a keepsake with all the pictures in it.

Well that's the shower.  It turned out so great, and I had the best co-hosts a girl could ask for.  Next up... Jason's 30th Birthday Bash.  I'll be posting the invites sometime next week.

I hope you all have a fabulous week!

{Fab Find} Poketo

Happy Friday everybody!  Today's Fab Find is an online shop called Poketo.  They have a little bit of everything.  I put a few of my favorite personal accessories above.  My favorite is the cute cropped jacket.

They also have a few home accessories.  I absolutely loved the fun planters they had.  I have to get some of these upside down hanging pots.  They would be super fun in our sun room!

Well that's it for today.  I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Along with photo ideas, they also have a whole section of great tips and tools.  Fall is the perfect time to get yourself organized.  It makes the winter a little more bearable when your workspace is pretty and clean!  I hope you all have a splendid weekend!

{Random Things} New Vacuum

Happy Wednesday everybody!  It has been an exciting day.....I bought a new vacuum!  My old Kenmore canister kicked the bucket last week, and it was going to cost too much to fix.  I decided that instead of spending a bunch of money to fix it, I may as well invest that money into a new one, so I went out and bought the Kenmore Progressive 2171 (new version of my old one).  I'm not brand loyal with too many things, but one of them is Kenmore vacuums.  The biggest con so far in my book with the new one is that the carpet attachment isn't self propelled (my old one was), but it's not a deal breaker.  I'm loving everything else about it so far, especially the swivel head.

We had lots of people urging us to get a Dyson instead, but I'm just not sold on them.  First of all, I think the commercials get everybody hyped up, and maybe they just haven't ever had a good vacuum.  Second, I absolutely hate bag less vacuums, and that's all they have.  Sure you save some money by not having to buy bags, but you also have to spend more money on filters then on a bagged model.  When I had a bag less, I found the emptying process messy and annoying.  Lastly, I think they are a bit overpriced.  I have no problem spending money on a vacuum (I spent a fair amount on the one I bought today), but for the price, the Kenmore I bought had all the same features and then some and cost less.

On a funny note, I think as a female you know you're officially a "grown up" when you get excited about a vacuum.  I hope you all have a fabulous evening!

{Fab Find} Treasure Again

Happy Friday everybody!  I've been on a major vintage kick lately, and one of my favorite things to buy are old mason jars.   So you can see why I was so excited when I stumbled upon Treasure Again because old mason jars are their specialty.    They turn them into vases, hanging votive holders, and even chandeliers.   One of my favorite things they sell are the solar jar tops.  I can't wait to pick up some of these.  They will look so cute on our front porch!

Well that's it for this week's Fab Find.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!  I'll see you next week!

{My Life} Lake Weekend

Hey everybody!  I've been busy this week prepping for house guests various house guests we'll have all week next week, so it's taken me until today to blog.  Boy do we have a lot more house to clean now.  It's overwhelming.  I can't imagine what it's going to be like when we eventually have little kids running around here.

We are leaving tomorrow to go to the lake for the weekend, and I plan to spend a good part of the day today baking delicious treats to bring with.  I'm also having my co-planners for Amber's Baby Shower over for dinner so we can finalize details.  It's going to be a busy day (but a fun one), as I should probably find some time to pack in there.

Have a great day everyone!  See you all tomorrow for this week's Fab Find!
