{Fab Find} Menswear Shoes

Hey everybody!  This week's Fab Find is kind of a blast from the past, menswear shoes.  I remember when these were "in style" when I was younger.  I loved them then, and I love them now.  I can't wait to pick up a pair of these for fall.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend!

{Soirees} Party Popper Invitation DYI

Hey everybody!  I've been very excited to show you the invitations we used to for my friend Amber's upcoming baby shower.  Instead of just showing you the finished product, I thought I would show you all how I made them.

I first stumbled upon the idea from Oh Happy Day, and then I adjusted it a little bit to suit my needs.  I was very happy with the finished results.  If you do make these you may want to put a warning label on them because boy are they loud when they go off.

Alright, now for my very first blog DYI.  I hope you all enjoy it!

Supplies I used for this project:
- Twistable party poppers (I purchased mine on clearance at a party supply store.)
- Confetti (I made my own using a raindrop punch, and mixed it with a sparkly pre-made confetti.)
- String or thread
- Tape (I used washi tape.)
- Circle cutter
- Scissors
- Hole punches
- Exacto knife
- Scoring Board (I used this to fold the invitation accordion style.)
- Invitation (I made my own.  The dimensions I used were 1"x 4.25".)
- Labels (I used Avery 5168 labels.)

For my invitation, I just used card stock.  I printed a stripe pattern on the back, and then printed the information on the front.  Then, I scored it to make it fold like an accordion.

You could just pop every popper, but that gets old fast.  Instead I just removed the paper top and label, and then dumped the confetti out.

To take apart the popper, I put one hand on the twistable base and the other hand on the main stationary part.  Then I just wiggled it until it came apart.  Then to take apart the rest you push down on the top and twist until it comes off.

I chose to attach the invite with a piece of string.  When testing the poppers, I found that the invitation can really shoot out, and the recipient could completely miss it.

Make sure you feed the string through the spring and through the hole of the top piece.

Yet another thing I discovered during testing.  If you don't tape off these holes, all your confetti falls through.  I used a washi tape because its thin enough (not too strong) that it'll still allow the string to feed through.

I used a tiny hole punch to create a hole for the string to go through, and then just tied it in a bow.

For the poppers I bought 1 1/2" was the perfect size circle for the top.

Again, I used washi tape because I knew it would break easy when the popper was twisted.  If you were to use to strong of tape everything might not "pop" the way it's suppose to.

After stuffing the invite inside, use the circle and tape you cut to seal off the top.

To make my labels, I found and image on iStock, and then used Photoshop to design the rest.  If you don't have Photoshop, you could probably easily use Microsoft Word or Pages to whip something up too.

There you have it.  These were pretty easy to make, and have a much bigger "wow" factor than your traditional baby shower invitations.

I hope you all enjoyed the DYI.  Have a splendid weekend!

{Random Things} Hmm....

This adorable custom print from Vol 25 completely sums up how I'm feeling right now.  While I love summers in Minnesota, I get really excited for fall and school to start.  Partly because fall is my favorite season (pause for gasps), and partly because I love getting back on a schedule and into a routine.

{My Life} An engagement and a baby....

While there hasn't been a whole lot going on with Jason and I this past week, there has been some excitement with some friends of ours.

This lovely couple just got engaged!  Congratulations DJ and Kelly!

Then our friends Adam and Emily had a beautiful baby girl!  Congratulations!  Little Caitlyn Alice looks perfect, and we can't wait to meet her!

I hope you all have a great Thursday!  See you tomorrow with this week's Fab Finds.

Photo Credits: When and Where Invitations

I obviously have invitations on the brain because when I saw When and Where Invitations on HWTM, I knew I had to blog about them.  Their invitations are incredibly beautiful and unique.  Can you imagine getting one of these amazing invitations in the mail?  It would be such a treat!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

{My Life} Springrose Wedding

Hey everybody!  I hope you all had a great week.  I certainly did.  Last weekend was my friends Paula and Ben's wedding, and it was a blast.  It was great to meet their wonderful families, and to make some new friends.

On Monday I met with my friends Alli and Michelle to begin planning our other friend Amber's baby shower, and I'm so excited to start sharing some of the details with you all.  I'm particularly excited to share the invitations, which I will show you all once the guests have received them.

We have lots of other fun things coming up on the horizon.  First, we are heading to the lake for a joint 30th Birthday Bash for our friends Shane and Chris.  Then, we are going to have Jason's family in town for a the Red Sox and Twins series.  Finally, in less than a month we are going to have a "semi-permanent" house guest arriving.  My little sister Katie is moving here for college, and will be staying with us her freshman year.  I'm so excited to have her here!

Well that's it for now.  As always, I hope you all have a fabulous week!

{My Life} Where to begin.....

Hey everybody!  Boy have I missed blogging!  I got the okay from my doctors to start using my arm again, so I'm back in business!  I have so much to catch you all up on too.  I'm going to skip a little, just so that I don't bore you all too much.

As I mentioned before, I went to Washington DC with my family.  It was extremely hot the whole time we were there, but we made the best of it.  We managed to work in most of the sights, and had a great time doing so.

Jason came home from Vegas for the 4th of July, and we hosted a little gathering at our place.  It was pretty low key, but it was fun, as always, to have everyone over.  Jason and I ended the night by going to watch the fireworks here in Eagan.  They were spectacular (I love fireworks).

Then Jason headed back to Vegas for the Main Event, and I went out for Alli B's birthday celebration.  We went to Benihana, which is always delicious, and then we went out for a little while after.  It was lots of fun!

I also had some house guests in the form of my lil sissy and her two bff's.  The last night they were here I took them all out to dinner at The Melting Pot.  It's been so fun watching these little ladies grow up.  I can't believe they're starting college in less than 2 months!

On a sadder note, Jason busted from the WSOP Main Event on Day 1.  I guess he can't final table it every year.  The silver lining is that he was able to come home yesterday, and will be able to be here for all of the Springrose Wedding festivities this weekend (which begin tomorrow already!).

Well that sums up most of my blogging hiatus.  I hope you all enjoy the rest of your week!

{Fab Find} Glam House and Autumn Art on Etsy

Hey everybody!  I'm back from my hiatus.  I'll give a real update next week on everything that has been going on, but I wanted to pick up my Fab Finds right away this week.  I have a special theme this week too....weddings, and this is why.

Three years ago this Tuesday (July 12th), I married my best friend.

There have also been a couple of engagements this week, congratulations Britney and Derek and another congratulations to Liz and Chris!

Then, a week from Saturday my friends Paula and Ben will be getting hitched.

So you can see why all of this talk of marriage has me thinking about weddings.  I think the only downside to getting married for a bride is having the day you've been dreaming about your whole life be over.  You are bound to think of all the things you could have done, or to see some new trend you wish you could have used.  Speaking of those trends, on to this weeks Fab Finds.

Photo Credtis: Glam House

The first one is an awesome Etsy shop called Glam House.  Their bridal sashes are absolutely gorgeous!  It's a great way to spruce up a simple dress.   Along with sashes they also have lots of other wonderful bridal accessories.

Another bridal trend I absolutely love right now is fabric flower bouquets, and Autumn Art on Etsy has some of the most fabulous ones I've seen so far.  They are really beautiful, and best of all, they don't die.  You can keep them for years to come.

Well that's it for this week's Fab Finds.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
